Water Hero: Dean Hoegger

“I am inspired by my children and grandchildren who enjoy recreating in the waters of Door County.”
Fox River Watershed, Lake Michigan
Sturgeon Bay, WI

How do you work to protect Wisconsin’s waters?
As the Clean Water Action Council President, I work to protect Wisconsin waters by educating our members and the public through newsletters, presentations and exhibits. I also take action by commenting on permits, writing appeals and taking legal action to ensure enforcement of laws that protect the waters of the state.

What are your biggest concerns right now?

Much of my concern is focused on agricultural runoff and ground water contamination from factory farms.

What keeps you strong and inspired in the face of challenges?
Having children and grandchildren who enjoy recreating in the waters of Door County inspires me to stay strong in the face of changing Wisconsin policies that favor polluters over citizens.

What’s your favorite “water spot” in Wisconsin?
Little Sturgeon Bay
